Privacy Policy
This policy explains how IELTS Labs collects, uses, and stores information when you use the app.
Data controller
IELTS Labs is operated by Abdelrahman Ayman.
For privacy-related enquiries, contact us at abdoayman@icloud.com.
Information stored in your browser
IELTS Labs stores a locally generated guest identifier and practice progress in your browser to maintain your experience across sessions on the same device. If you clear browser storage or switch devices, this data may be lost.
We also store your cookie preference choice in browser storage so optional analytics and advertising scripts only load according to your selected settings.
Information sent to the backend
When using the app, requests are sent to our backend to provide functionality such as writing analysis, saved word lists, and practice sessions. This may include:
- User identifier (guest or account-based)
- Submitted text (e.g. essays for analysis)
- Usage data required to operate the service
Third-party services
We may use trusted third-party service providers to operate IELTS Labs, including:
- Google Cloud / Cloud Run — backend hosting and infrastructure
- Google Vertex AI and/or Anthropic — AI writing analysis and feedback
- Google Analytics — optional product analytics after consent
- Stripe — payment processing
- Resend or another email provider — authentication and support emails
- PostgreSQL & Redis — database, caching, and application storage
- Netlify — frontend hosting
These services may process your data according to their own privacy policies. Providers may change over time.
Payments
All payments are processed securely via Stripe. IELTS Labs does not store your payment card details at any point during or after checkout.
Advertising
If ads are enabled, third-party providers such as Google AdSense may load scripts and collect data under their own privacy policies. Advertising scripts are only loaded after you allow advertising cookies in the cookie preferences popup. You can also opt out via your browser settings or ad personalisation controls.
How data is used
We use data to:
- Provide and operate the service
- Analyse writing submissions and return feedback
- Track progress and improve the user experience
- Monitor system performance and prevent abuse
Legal basis
We process your data to provide the service you request (contract) and to improve the product (legitimate interest). Where required by law, we will request your explicit consent before processing.
Data retention
We retain data only as long as necessary to provide the service and improve the product. Account data is deleted upon request. Local browser data remains on your device until you remove it.
Your rights
You have the right to:
- Access the data we hold about you
- Request correction or deletion of your data
- Object to certain types of processing
- Data portability where technically feasible
To exercise any of these rights, contact us at abdoayman@icloud.com. We will respond within 30 days.
Your choices
You may stop using the service at any time, clear local browser storage, or use browser controls to limit tracking. You can reopen cookie settings from the site footer to change optional analytics and advertising consent. Removing your account data can be requested via email.
